The Black Velvets are a heart-melting Acoustic Duo from London, UK. A classic mixture of warm Guitar strings, ethereal Vocal Harmonies and soaring Violin. The Black velvets traverse an eclectic mix of material, your favourite songs from The Forties to The Noughties and beyond.
Comprising of Award-winning Songstress, Guitarist & Vocalist, Laura James (Laura James & The Lyres) and Violinist & Vocalist, Charlotte Andrew (Charley Blue), The Black Velvets were brought together in 2009 when they both attended degree courses in Music at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). The Duo have been playing together since then in various bands and guises before finally forming The Black Velvets in 2014.
Since forming, The BVs have been busy playing Weddings & Functions all throughout the UK. At the heart of the duo is a mutual desire to provide professional and inspired music for all occasions.

Laura
Laura began playing guitar and singing at the age of 14. Since then she has released 3 EPs of original music and played National Festivals such as Kendal Calling, Solfest, Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape, as well as International Festivals such as LIPAStock (Agen, FR) and Dewey Beach Music Festival (Delaware, USA). Her song ‘Every Little Amber’ won The Musician’s Benevolent Fund in 2012. Her first single ‘The Water’ was self-released in 2013 and has had extensive radio play including BBC Cumbria, BBC Merseyside and by Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 as well as having been playlisted by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson.
Charlotte
Charlotte began playing Violin at the age of 10 and performing since the age of 14. Charlotte’s diverse musical education has spanned Jazz, Classical, Folk, Pop, and RnB over her 10 years performing. Charlotte formed Charley Blue – A Jazz-Singing, Violin-Playing Rapper- in 2010. Covering Artists such as Tinie Tempah, Prince, Jay-Z, Beyonce as well as writing original music to fit her unique genre-curving style. As well as this Charlotte has played session violin for artists such as Douglas Dare and Stealing Sheep as well as fronting The Paul Dunton Orchestra since 2012. Charlotte has played both National and International Festivals and Completed Tours of Europe and The USA.
